Happy Reformation Day!

I know it's late, but I was busy earlier. I was at home with the kiddies while the wifey was at work, and I've been working on a sermon for class. The life of a poor college student is like that. *sigh*

Anyways, I could probably babble for a bit about the joys we have today in serving God freely because of His intervention in the life of good ol' Marty, but I just want to post a great little theme song of the reformation instead. I know that many people have already posted it here or there, but I wanna have it here so's I can locate it quickly in the future. So, for those of you who have no idea what I'm referring to, check this out:

The Reformation Polka

by Robert Gebel

[Sung to the tune of "Supercalifragilistic-expialidocious"]

When I was just ein junger Mann I studied canon law;
While Erfurt was a challenge, it was just to please my Pa.
Then came the storm, the lightning struck, I called upon Saint Anne,
I shaved my head, I took my vows, an Augustinian! Oh...

Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!

When Tetzel came near Wittenberg, St. Peter's profits soared,
I wrote a little notice for the All Saints' Bull'tin board:
"You cannot purchase merits, for we're justified by grace!
Here's 95 more reasons, Brother Tetzel, in your face!" Oh...

Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!

They loved my tracts, adored my wit, all were exempleror;
The Pope, however, hauled me up before the Emperor.
"Are these your books? Do you recant?" King Charles did demand,
"I will not change my Diet, Sir, God help me here I stand!" Oh...

Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!

Duke Frederick took the Wise approach, responding to my words,
By knighting "George" as hostage in the Kingdom of the Birds.
Use Brother Martin's model if the languages you seek,
Stay locked inside a castle with your Hebrew and your Greek! Oh...

Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!

Let's raise our steins and Concord Books while gathered in this place,
And spread the word that 'catholic' is spelled with lower case;
The Word remains unfettered when the Spirit gets his chance,
So come on, Katy, drop your lute, and join us in our dance! Oh...

Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!

Happy Reformation Day everybody!

Hey Mike,
Love Piper's preaching on the Gospel.

I have written to Billy Graham concerning his inclusivism, and his ministry responded.
They seem to disagree with him personally.

As a young Christian the Lord used Billy to edify me, and help me grow in the grace knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He actually was one of the teachers to help bring away from Wesley's Arminianism, which says you can lose your salvation.

He was soft on religions like Catholicism, but he also preached one is saved by grace, and repentance and faith.

His godliness and and pure love for our Savior were an encouragement to me.
His great love for people was also incredible, but became his idol. He made less of Scripture, because he loved people so much, and couldn't imagine God condemning people to hell, though he did believe people went to hell.

He himself said he was "a worm and deserved hell".

His rewads, I believe will be great in heaven, and though his theology was weak, his heart was after God's. As King David, one of the most despicable believers ever, will also be close to the throne of the Lord.

I appreciate your thoughts on all this. And just wanted to stop by and share my heart a little, since JT closed the thread. Which was probably a good idea.

Thanks for your thoughts, donsands. I appreciate the fact that you wrote to Graham's ministry because many Christians see that as a waste of time. They think that no one will respond to a regular guy--erroneously, I believe.

I also appreciate this little observation you made: "His great love for people was also incredible, but became his idol."

I think that's definitely what went wrong with him. I once heard a story of a man who went golfing with Graham, and by the time they were finished the man felt so convicted--not because of the words that Graham said, but simply by his humble, loving, gracious demeanor.

That being said, the world has seen many incredibly gracious, loving, and humble people who will not be in heaven if the Bible is true. Take Mother Theresa for example. Not many people who ever lived on this planet cared for others in the way that she did. The problem is that she accepted whole-heartily a false gospel with a false Jesus who never saved anyone. Or take Ghandi. He was instrumental in bringing peace about for millions of people in India. Yet he flat denied the Gospel.

The point is, we cannot merely judge the spiritual condition based on actions. We cannot even judge based on the actions + the things that they have right about the message. A study of the book of Galatians will confirm the fact that just because you preach Jesus and do nice things doesn't guarantee a heavenly reward.
